Introduction: Definitions of ICZM, Boundaries of the coastal zone, View of coastal zone as a system, Characteristics of the coastal zone, Needs and objectives of ICZM (Component uses, Ecosystem uses, Functions). 2. Multiple Uses of the Coastal Zone: Urban settlement, Industrial development, Tourism and recreation, Waste disposal, Shore protection works, Port and marine transportation, Land transport infrastructure, Capture fisheries, Aquaculture, Sea salt production, Coastal agriculture, Extraction industries. 3. Coastal Zone Management Issues: Population growth, Resource exploitation, Land use change, Conservation reserves and protection of biodiversity, Resource use conflicts, Horizontal and vertical integration. 4. Tools and Techniques for ICZM: Administrative (Policy and legislation, Guidelines, Zoning), Social (Traditional practices, Collaborative and community-based management, Capacity building), Technical (Environmental Impact Assessment, Risk and hazard assessment and management, Landscape and visual resource analysis, Economic analysis, Remote Sensing and GIS). 5. ICZM Planning Cycle: Classifying coastal management plans, Designing a coastal planning framework, ICZM plans described by geographical coverage (International integrated plans, Regional scale integrated plans, Local area integrated plans, Site-level integrated plans), Planning processes (Administrative process, Public participation, Producing the plan), The implementation of coastal management plans, Monitoring and evaluation. 6.
